Sarah's Quilt
Sarah’s quilt finished size is 64” X 80”
-
The quilt contains 63 squares, 7 across and 9 down. Each square piece is an
8 inch square block plus ¼ inch seam allowance on all sides.
-
Center block is white muslin with a heart appliquéd in its center, large
enough to fill the center square. The color of the heart is not specified.
Other squares making up the quilt are red, green and blue. Remember the
quilt was made from old shirts and handkerchiefs.
-
The border consists of two, 2 inch strips plus a ¼ inch seam allowance. The
inside border piece is light red. The outside border piece is a medium blue
color. Remember the border strips were cut from his red long underwear and
his blue pants, not blue jeans. Both colors could be faded from many
washings.
-
The backing came from civil war era dress fabric, the color or print was
unspecified.
